Dental Crown and Bridge

crown is a restoration that completely encloses a tooth (or dental implant) and is usually cemented to the tooth and /or screwed to an implant. Dental Crowns are used to improve the function, strength and/or appearance of teeth or implant. Frequently teeth that have previously been heavily carious /restored and/ or root canal treated need a crown.

The most common method of fabricating a crown involves first taking a dental impression of the prepared tooth. This impression is then sent to the laboratory, where a crown is fabricated. The new crown is later cemented onto the prepared tooth at a subsequent appointment. Laboratory-fabricated crowns are strong, durable and often highly aesthetic restorations. Typically crowns are made of materials such as metal/ porcelain fused to metal/ ceramic.

bridge is a fixed restoration used to replace a missing tooth/ teeth by attaching replacement artificial teeth to prepared adjacent teeth or dental implants.

There are different types of dental bridges; bonded bridges, tooth supported bridges and implant supported bridges. Following tooth/ teeth preparation and impressions, bridges are made in the laboratory and are fitted at a subsequent appointment. The materials used in the fabrication of bridges include; metal, porcelain fused to metal, or in some situations all ceramic.

Provided they are kept clean, bridges are a fixed, highly aesthetic and long-lasting way to replace missing teeth.
